A bit of history just two hours away from Panama City
Just two hours from Panama City one can visit the historic picturesque town of Portobello on the Atlantic Ocean. Set on a scenic Caribbean bay, Portobello was the transshipment point during the Spanish Colonial era for all the treasures the Spanish looted from the Inca Empire. Treasure was stored here and shipped to Spain. Gold and treasure stacked high in the customs house made it the favorite target of English pirates like Sir Francis Drake who attacked the city repeatedly and met his demise in waters nearby. Visitors can tour the ruins of 4 Spanish Forts and the restored Customs House.
